"Tungsten" how strong is it ?

"Tungsten" how strong is it ?

Tungsten carbide, also referred to simply as tungsten, is a very hard, strong and durable metal. It’s also quite heavy.Tungsten has a characteristic unique to this special metal – tungsten is highly scratch resistant. Unlike gold, platinum and even titanium, tungsten rings do not scratch with everyday wear like the other metals do. It is technically possible to scratch tungsten, though only with objects that are harder than tungsten. So that leaves diamonds, sapphires, rubies and ceramic. Though unless you dragged the tip of a loose diamond along the tungsten, the metal will stay scratch resistant. Having a wedding band that’s scratch resistant offers a lot of advantages. Tungsten always looks new and bright and shiny. Tungsten offers what’s referred to as a permanent polish, which means that it doesn’t need to be re-polished. So, it doesn’t need the polishing maintenance that gold, platinum and titanium rings do. Tungsten stands up to the wear that even the roughest husbands can dish-out, making it a popular choice for men’s wedding rings. Tungsten has an appealing color which almost all men like. The tungsten color is a grey-white color, similar to that of white gold or titanium. Tungsten is particularly popular in men’s wedding rings. The range of tungsten jewellery is generally more restricted than for other metals. Tungsten rings cannot be resized (as tungsten can’t be cut and resoldered), so it’s important to have your finger size accuratley measured before buying a tungsten ring.

Engagement rings for men... really?

Engagement rings for men... really?

In some countries it is common for both men and women to wear engagement rings. The rings are often in the form of a plain band of a precious metal. Sometimes, the engagement ring eventually serves as the wedding ring for the man. In Brazil, for example, the groom and bride-to-be usually wear a plain wedding band on the right hand during the course of their engagement.[After the wedding, the band is moved to the left hand. In Argentina, it is also known for the groom and bride-to-be to wear a plain silver band on the left hand while engaged. Then, after the wedding the silver band is either replaced with the wedding ring or moved to the right hand.

Massive leather cuffs have been a thing of the past for a long time – and that’s not even mentioning the styles that have metal studs on them either. History of the wedding ring

History of the wedding ring

The double-ring ceremony

The double-ring ceremony, or use of wedding rings for both partners, is a 20th-century American innovation but has been used elsewhere before. The US jewelry industry started a marketing campaign aimed at encouraging this practice in the late 19th century. In the 1920s, ad campaigns tried introducing a mens engagement ring, but it failed due to the necessity that its advertising campaigns make secret appeals to women. Marketing lessons of the 1920s, changing economic times, and the workplace impact of the war led to a more successful marketing campaign for male and female wedding bands, and by the late 1940s, double-ring ceremonies made up 80% of all weddings, as opposed to 15% before the depression. Rising expectations of equality between the sexes in nearly all spheres of life during the 20th century cemented the trend, and double-wedding ring ceremonies remain preponderant in the US in the 21st century, causing some orthodox religious authorities to struggle to harmonize their single-ring traditions with couples' desire for a double-ring ceremony.

How is White Gold made ?

How is White Gold made ?

The purest form of gold is, of course, golden and is referred to as 24 karat gold. Pure gold is much too soft for use in jewellery and can even be dented by simply pressing your fingernail hard against it. Needless to say, daily wear, particularly for things like rings and bracelets, would see such jewellery bent and deformed quite quickly. So the gold must be made more durable by mixing it with another kind of metal or metals, creating a gold alloy.

Mens Titanium Ring's

Mens Titanium Ring's

Titanium men's rings, are known for their strength – even car manufacturers have used it for their engines (as well as tungsten). Out of all the metals, including tungsten rings, titanium has the highest ratio between density and strength. It too is stronger than steel, but is much lighter. Titanium rings have corrosion resistance against oxygen, so it lasts long. It isn’t that resistant to scratches and scuffs, so that’s definitely something to keep in mind while shopping for your men’s jewellery as well as titanium bracelets. If you want bling that will stay shiny for decades to come, tungsten rings is the winner. If you accidentally run your ring over in the driveway, no worries – it will still be as good as new. Neither tungsten rings nor titanium rings have reaction to your skin (as long as there is no cobalt). You don’t have to worry about titanium rings or tungsten rings bending over time, but there is a difference in weight; titanium rings have a lighter metal than tungsten rings.

Sterling Silver Rings.. an old sckool favourite

Sterling Silver Rings.. an old sckool favourite

Sterling silver men's rings are a popular option for those seeking white metal rings who don’t have the budget for platinum, white gold or palladium. Sterling silver’s natural malleability lends itself well to a number of designs, giving silver rings the hand made, old sckool look and fee.

What is Sterling Silver?

  • Sterling silver is specifically an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% alloying material by mass.

  • Most items of sterling silver jewellery are hypoallergenic depending on the alloy used, the most common alloying material being copper.

  • Not only is sterling silver hypoallergenic, but silver has antibacterial properties, and can be used as a preventative measure against infection.

  • Silver was once considered by ancient peoples to be second in value only to gold.

  • Due to silver’s extreme malleability, sterling silver rings are easily resized

The Humble Mens Ring

Far from just an indicator that you’re off the market, rings can be mixed and matched to suit a series of different spring/summer get-ups. While plain gold, rose gold and silver cuffs work well, rings in the same metals tend to look too much like wedding bands.

Instead, try opting for designs cast from oxidised silver, brushed brass and zinc, or go for styles in gold, rose gold and silver that are engraved, feature cut-out/lattice effects or have plaited inserts so as to shake off the matrimonial connotations.
